As Quest begrudgingly comes to terms with having to care for a spoiled princeling, the pair make their way into the deadly Forest of Edj to seek out the Rocks - the oldest, wisest, and most boring beings in all of Odyssia - to find "The Dagger of the Way" before the forces of evil do. But the two are separated while facing the perils of the forest. While Quest is pursued by an angry mob of Snarls, Nestor meets up with the wily griffin, Graer, who may have his own agenda. With Lord Spite gathering his most fierce minions, a mysterious new ally may be the key to tipping the scales in favor of our heroes.

Gr 4-6-In this installment, Quest (a bodyguard) must continue to protect Prince Nestor as they search for the mysterious Dagger of the Way, whatever that is. They attempt to enter the dark forest Edj in order to talk to some rocks about their situation and they get separated. Nestor orders, or rather begs, a griffin for help as Lord Spite sends killer Snarls their way. With a mixture of sass and silliness, the paring of Quest and Nestor will have kids laughing in the stacks. The full-color panels look a lot like the old Sunday funnies but feel fresh and new. There are some jokes about unions at the beginning but they shouldnt interfere with childrens enjoyment. A delightful read."Sadie Mattox, DeKalb County Public Library, Decatur, GA"Copyright 2009 School Library Journal, LLC Used with permission.

Grades 3-6 Evolving from Web comic to cartoon and now into a series of graphic novels, The World of Quest combines popular genres with its sword-and-sorcery trappings and superheroic characters. Once a great hero, Quest Broad-Jaw has been pulled from retirement to protect the eager and spoiled Prince Nestor as they brave the copious dangers of Odyssia, both avoiding and fouling the plans of Lord Spite and his minions. Humor is high, mainly in the relationship between the gruff Quest and his young, difficult charge, but classic fantasy elements like dark sorcerer kings, clever puzzles, and young men finding their heroic destinies abound and are effectively wrapped up in visually inventive art, highly reminiscent of what the readership might find popping along energetically in some of the Cartoon Networks more popular programming. Ideal for lovers of Joann Sfars Dungeon series postmodern take on the genre, this second volume clearly has a developed continuity and ends on a cliff-hanger, but will also be easy for new readers to jump aboard and enjoy the fun.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
