NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE FROM WARNER BROTHERS PICTURES * "Reads like Apollo 13 underwater." —Don Winslow * "Masterful." —Patricia Cornwell * "A stunningly vivid tour de force!" Gripping. Shocking." —Brad Thor

Flight attendant turned New York Times bestselling author T. J. Newman's adrenaline-fueled thriller about a commercial jetliner that crashes into the ocean and sinks to the bottom with passengers trapped inside—and the extraordinary rescue operation to save them.
Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it's too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.

More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.

Their only chance at survival is an elite rescue team on the surface led by professional diver Chris Kent—Shannon's mother and Will's soon-to-be ex-wife—who must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff.

There's not much time. There's even less air.

With devastating emotional power and heart-stopping suspense, Drowning is an unforgettable thriller about a family's desperate fight to save themselves and the people trapped with them—against impossible odds.

Narrators Steven Weber and Laura Benanti keep the adrenaline flowing in this thriller about a plane that crashes in the Pacific six minutes after its takeoff from Hawaii. Weber, who assumes the role of passenger Will Kent, among others, carries the tense opening chapters, in which passengers must decide whether to abandon the aircraft and hope they can stay alive in the ocean--or stay onboard until they're rescued. Will's wife, Chris, portrayed by Benanti, is at the command center, trying to navigate between the warring rescue teams. Will and Chris's family history plays a big role in this pulse-pounding story. Each narrator imparts an impressive amount of engineering information while keeping the plot and characters foremost in listeners' minds. The result is an immersive experience in which life and death hang in the balance. L.W.S. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine

Just six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421's engine explodes, and the plane sinks to 200 feet below sea level. Out of the original 99 passengers, 12 passengers are still alive, having found an air pocket that formed as the plane descended into the ocean. Against all odds, Will Kent and his 11-year-old daughter are waist-deep in water--alive but in mortal danger. On the surface, a group of elite rescuers, including Will's soon-to-be ex-wife, Chris, are planning a daring rescue operation. With the plane's dwindling air supply, it is a race against the clock to save the passengers. Former flight attendant Newman (Falling) has written a heart-racing thriller about the will to survive in the most desperate circumstances. Narrators Steven Weber and Laura Benati give voice to Will, Chris, and all the passengers as they grapple with the unimaginable horror. Their combined narration is so atmospheric that listeners may feel claustrophobic, as if they, too, were trapped beneath the ocean's surface. VERDICT A gripping thriller channeling the courage and determination of individuals facing their fears and confronting true terror.--Elyssa Everling
